Greg Steenbeeke, Orkology Featured Artist

Category: Partners, PhotographyRachael @ 12:56 pm Comments (0)

Our most recent featured artist is Greg Steenbeeke, more commonly known by users of LTLPrints as Orkology. Orkology, a username inspired by Greg’s love of all that is plants, is not surprising being that Greg comes from the bountiful land down unda!

Originally from Sydney, Greg is now currently living in a city in northern New South Wales called Inverell. Greg has lived all over Australia, including Caloundra, a city located on Australia’s Sunshine Coast, where he occasionally had the honor of working with the late but great Crocodile Hunter himself, Steve Irwin.

sydney1 Greg considers himself to have inherited his interest and talent in photography  from his  father, who introduced him to a way that he could capture the  moment, looking more  closely at the idiosyncrasies, specificities and splendor  in a world that is often  fleeting. Greg’s long affair with photography is not the  only thing working to his  advantage; he is also a trained environmental  scientist with strong background in geology  and ecology. His professional  accomplishments don’t stop there; he is also a certified  botanist, which  explains his expertise in Australian plants. Greg’s professional career as the  environmental manager for the New South Wales government allows him to  combine work with play, and past studies have also led him to extensive travels, which have allowed Greg to expand his collection of photographs to beyond his native country of Australia (check out photos tagged New Zealand).

Although Greg admittedly still enjoys capturing the vivid hues of a colorful sunset, he has gravitated towards photographing orchid imagery. Still allowing him to record all the unique colors of nature, photographing orchids also allows Greg to study the variations and wide diversity of this enormous family of flowers.

orchid3For all you camera experts out there, Greg currently swaps between using the 3MP Fuji S5000 and the 10MP Olympus e420 to capture his favorite images. Albeit Greg confesses he cannot choose simply one image out of his extensive collection to favor the most, he has a few that he really enjoys. These images can all be found in the catalogue and include plants, such as Pink Moth Orchids; animals, such as the Red Kangaroo; and scenery, such as the coastal cliffs of Sydney’s North Head.

kangaroo4There is plenty more to come from Greg in the future! He looks forward to soon sharing his more recent works that have been captured with his new high-resolution Olympus camera, which he has shared are his wife’s favorite because of their truly striking detail!

Greg does not have a personal website, but to see more of his work you can visit  Orkology Kreations, Panoramio, or Zip Code Zoo, all of which are sites that Greg is prominently featured. Also, you can visit Greg’s Facebook page at facebook.com/orkology.

Charles Akins, HelloWally Featured Artist

Category: Art, Design, PartnersDoban @ 10:42 am Comments (0)

119202n01s001_mthumbLet’s jump right into my favorite fact about Charles Akins. He rocked the dinosaur fad in the 1990s like nobody’s business. Since I have such a soft spot in my heart for all things early nineties, Charles is without a doubt immediately, the man. A graduate of Georgia State University in Graphic Design, he leans more toward illustration even terming himself a “graphic designistrator”. Charles comes to us from an impressive background creating works for MAD magazine, American Express, Nike, & the U.S. Olympic Committee, amongst many others. He’s now showcasing designs within his partner shop you can check out here!

Mr. Akins grew up in Atlanta, GA with parents who immersed him in art. At the age of 3 he was awed by his father’s representation of “Dick Tracy” via sketch and always took part in creative camps and classes with his mom as he grew 119126n01s001_mthumbolder. Charles has always felt drawn to art and creation yet kept himself well rounded with athletics, music, and acting. With a refreshingly positive attitude he continues to push ahead into the creative world and is now bringing his works to Larger Than Life Prints.

Charles is undoubtedly happy to  have found a place to bring his experimental and side projects to the masses. He can now show all of his work to the globe and it is reviving a wide expanse of opportunity for ideas not always used for contract or commission work. We’re delighted to have such a creative, motivated, and genuinely excited person offering their work through LTLPrints.com!!

Charles promises lots and lots of new looks and themes, which he describes as a plethora. Dinosaurs and the use of the word plethora (not to mention his substantial art work) make Charles Akins of HelloWally the perfect featured artist! If you’re interested in checking out more of his work take a look at AkinsStudio.com and Illoguy.com . He can also be reached at CAkins@akinstudio.com .

Sean Martorana, +HE_S+UDiO Feature Artist

Category: Art, Custom Shops, Design, PartnersDoban @ 11:17 am Comments (1)

117656n01s001_mthumbSean Martorana is our featured artist bringing us impressive designs from +HE_S+UDiO. Hailing from Glassboro New Jersey and a graduate of the Art Institute of Philadelphia, Sean has identified as an artist his entire life. While others may express their thought through music or song, Sean finds his release through graphic design.

When asked for his strongest influence he said emotions, whether his or those adsorbed from others, play the biggest role. Sean enjoys creating projects with undertones of spiritual and African art that are entertaining to the eye. He has a deep appreciation for symbolism and wants what he makes to engage the viewer.

A believer that passion drives everything, he enjoys the relationship between the created piece and the viewer. Sean’s favorite pieces at the moment are the Shaman Skull Series because of the use of symbolism, spiritual aspects, and the fact that it’s just a bad ass image. We’re glad to have Sean’s designs at +HE_S+UDiO LTLprints shop. You can find out more about Sean at StudioGraphics.biz or reach him by email at imagine@studiographics.biz.

Can’t wait to see more designs Sean!

It feels so good to help DO good!

Category: Customers, EventsGloriaBell @ 10:12 am Comments (3)

Larger Than Life prints was  contacted by Ronald McDonald House Charities in Tampa Bay, Florida.  They were planning their annual Spring gala, the Storybook Ball, and were looking for something new and different to include in their decor.   They had discovered our “Wanted poster” template and decided it was a perfect vehicle to help spread their message.  When they sent us the details for the posters, we have to admit to getting misty eyes.  Printing a poster for a little boy who “wants” a new heart is ltl-wanted-poster-1a little heartbreaking.  But every cloud does have a silver lining!  We were being given an opportunity to be a part of a magical night that raises money to help sick children and their families.

Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Tampa Bay provides comfort and care to children and their families by supporting local Ronald McDonald Houses®, its cornerstone program, and by making grants to other local not-for-profit organizations that help children in need. The Ronald McDonald House® of Tampa Bay provides a home-away-from-home for families of pediatric patients in area hospitals.”   The Storybook Ball is one of their major fundraisers and we had been asked to provide posters that would help with those fundraising efforts.

Alison Barrick of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tampa Bay had this to say about Larger Than Life prints, the Wanted posters and the Storybook Ball

“The Wanted Posters that LTL Prints provided for our Storybook Ball, Lasso the Moon, were a huge hit in our silent auction room. Our event decorator was extremely impressed with the quality and look, and all of the guests raved about how perfect they were for our event. We plan to keep them for years to come! Thank you LTL Prints for providing us with such an outstanding product at an unbelievable price.”

It always feels good to have satisfied customers but knowing that we     contributed to this very worthwhile charity having a successful              fundraising event is an awe inspiring experience.  It does feel so good to help DO good!

Dear Internet Friends,

It is with great pleasure that we are here to announce the winners of the first ever Larger Than Life prints design competition.  Before we jump into it, everyone at LTLprints wants to sincerely thank each and every one of the designers for their submissions.  We are humbled by your creativity and vision.  Thank you!

Third place goes to Paul Hamilton with his ‘Lambo’ design. Paul wins a 3ft  (38”x24”) custom print.

Second place goes to Brett Mogavero with his Octopus design.  A 5ft print goes to you!

.

First place goes to Alisa with her ‘Anchor’ design!  She receives an LTL - Larger Than Life print of her choice!  FTW!!!

We really appreciate all the submissions, voting and support. We got so much
posititve feedback that we’ll repeat pretty soon.

Stay tuned for interviews with the 3 winners why the came up with the design

An Open letter to TokBox

Category: Good Times, Holiday Fun, Startupschoenrock @ 11:20 am Comments (0)

Dear Nick,

I read about your Yahoo – Taco Hiring Event on TechCrunch and was impressed.  The paper TokBox logo you taped to the truck, however, grabbed my attention.  I thought I would use this opportunity to introduce you to my company, LTLprints – Larger Than Life, and show you a better way to put your logo on taco trucks and walls in the future.

A few months ago TechCrunch asked us to print some wall decals for their August Capital meetup.  We had your logo on file from that event and thought, in the holiday spirit, we would send you some LTLprints love.

For your next event feel free to use our TokBox prints. Or if you’re really pumped we could print one that’s up to 7 feet wide and 4.5 feet tall.  Don’t worry, our prints won’t damage your walls and the prints can be pulled down and moved over and over again.

Please contact me directly or visit LTLprints.com for any custom print needs TokBox might have.

I wish you Happy Holidays and continued success with TokBox in 2009

I ain’t afraid of no ghosts (or stickers?)

Category: Thoughtsadmin @ 2:04 pm Comments (9)

I have a secret that I’m going to share with the LTLprints community. I’ve been with LTLprints for quite some time now, and I finally feel comfortable sharing this personal part of my life. I’d like to thank Kwan (our community evangelist) for helping me get to the point where I can talk about it. Let me take a deep breath first - okay. Here goes nothing.

I hate stickers.

Phew! That feels SO much better. Now, before everyone goes crazy and asks “don’t you work for a sticker company?” let me put you at ease. I do work for LTLprints - but we create oversized, “larger than life” customizable WALL DECALS - not stickers. The material is cloth, and it’s removable and reusable. Don’t you worry - I totally looked into all this before applying for the position:)

So back to my weird phobia. I can admit that it’s not normal. But I’m not the only one! I hate the apples and fruit that have stickers on them, and refuse to touch the stickers. Ask any of my close friends who have to peel the sticker off for me (thanks guys.) When you behave well at the dentist and they try to give you a big smiley face sticker - I run. Yup, I’m that cool. In my Public Speaking class at Susquehanna University, we were asked to do a 5 minute speech about something you HATE. I of course, chose stickers. After receiving numerous strange looks as I made my way back to my seat after speaking, I was quickly comforted. The next speaker did her entire speech on velcro. At least I’m not the only one with a weird phobia.
Kendall, Carsten, and Kwan are a bit intrigued by my phobia of stickers.  Leave a comment if you know of any other weird phobias, please, as it makes me feel better about myself:)
